The Video Game Wars Essay Example For Students

The Video Game Wars Essay The Video Game WarsBrian PaikExpository Writing10/8/96Video games are a major market nowadays. Inside the previous not many years, the industry has blasted into an exceptionally huge business. Inside this business, there are three major organizations are battling to be the best. Nintendos N64, Segas Saturn, and Sonys Playstation are the three principle frameworks in this colossal market. Since there are such huge numbers of games for these frameworks, and on the grounds that it is such a major business, stores work in just these games are opening all over the place. A couple of days prior, I strolled into one of these stores. My companion needed to buy the new nintendo machine. As indicated by the surveys, the framework should have the option to have astounding polygon designs. Computer games coming out nowadays are viewed as acceptable on the off chance that they comprise of numerous polygonal designs moving at a smooth and quick speed. From what he stated, I felt that no other computer game framework could contrast and it. At the point when I entered the store, the dividers were secured with numerous games for various frameworks. On one divider, there were Nintendos games, on another, were Segas games, and on the last, were Sonys games. Shockingly, Nintendos new games didnt appear to be a lot of unique than the other two organizations. On three corners of the room, there were TVs showing the best in class games for each famous support. While viewing these new games, I was in stunningness. At the point when I was more youthful, I played what th ose occasions considered, cutting edge computer games. During those years, the games had minimal blocky characters who looked more like a mass than an individual. The music wasnt even music by any stretch of the imagination. It was to a greater degree a lot of blaring at various pitches. These characters strolled around and bounced over other blocky characters in a two dimensional condition. The new games that I watched, nonetheless, were being played right off a CD. The characters were computerized pictures of genuine individuals, and the music was in CD quality. The game occurred in a totally three dimensional condition. We will compose a custom exposition on The Video Game Wars explicitly for you for just $16.38 $13.9/page Request now Nowadays, organizations are rivaling each other to bring out bleeding edge computer games. The explanation the games are a lot more practical than previously, is on the grounds that each organization must draw out a superior game than the other. Since they continue bringing out new games, they improve and better. Also, when they cannot improve games anything else for that specific computer game machine, the organizations will make another machine which can deal with better games. As of now in my life time, both Nintendo and Sega have made three computer game frameworks. As I referenced before, while my companions new Nintendo machine should be stunning, both Sega and Playstations frameworks looked similarly as great. In a couple of years, notwithstanding, every one of the three of those frameworks will be old, similarly as the frameworks in my initial years are out of date now. Albeit new and better frameworks are coming out constantly, they should remain sufficiently modest to purchase. As of now, the frameworks are excessively costly. Each of the three retail for about $200 and that doesnt incorporate a game. Games are an extra $80. Those are large costs, taking into account that when I was more youthful, frameworks were $80, with games around $20. Those costs, nonetheless, are just for the United States. In Japan, the nation where these frameworks are made, the computer game market is considerably greater. In that nation, a similar three frameworks retail for around $400 with independent games for around $100. The interesting thing is, the individuals really get it. Both Japan and The US are fortunate in light of the fact that the frameworks are made in the two nations. In nations where they arent produced, the individuals there need to import, and that is a pricey activity. At the point when I lived in Korea, numerous individuals I knew, purchased imported frameworks from Japan. They paid sums up to $800 for a framework with extra games being bought for $150 each. Imports additionally happen in the United States. .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8 , .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8 .postImageUrl , .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8 .focused content zone { min-tallness: 80px; position: relative; } .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8 , .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8:hover , .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8:visited , .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8:active { border:0!important; } .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8 { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; haziness: 1; progress: obscurity 250ms; webkit-change: murkiness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8:active , .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8:hover { mistiness: 1; progress: darkness 250ms; webkit-change: darkness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8 .focused content territory { width: 100%; position: relati ve; } .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8 .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: striking; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content embellishment: underline; } .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; text style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; outskirt span: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: intense; line-stature: 26px; moz-outskirt range: 3px; content adjust: focus; content improvement: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: outright; right: 0; top: 0; } .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u20fb9ff0da c7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u20fb9ff0dac7686ad0b39b3b3c9c06d8:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Metacognition EssayThere, extremist computer game players here and there import frameworks from Japan before they are discharged in the USA. Individuals go through hours before the TV to play these games. For what reason do they appreciate them to such an extent? Perhaps its the capacity to control things like a divine being. Possibly they simply appreciate the manner in which they games look. I dont know the response to that, yet what I can be sure of is, that it is a major business. Who will be the inevitable victor in the computer game wars? At this moment, it is most likely Nintendo in the lead position, Sony in second, with Sega at the base. The explanation behind this, is on the grounds that Nintendo is the most current, and Sega the most seasoned. In a couple of years, notwithstanding, it could absolutely change. Micro Analysis Essays

Smaller scale Analysis Essays Smaller scale Analysis Essay Smaller scale Analysis Essay Wrench made in 2006 had the principle star as Jason Stratham, which in the film he is called Chev. Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine guided it. The initial scene starts with the diegetic sound of a characters heartbeat. In a flash the crowd understands that something isn't right and the camera is shot in p.o.v. He is demonstrated looking down on the floor of a condo and his eyes are gleaming. The utilization of the data that his eyes are gleaming and the sound of his pulse build up that something has happened to his body and he is additionally breathing intensely. He unexpectedly starts to stroll around quick and wildly. A shrieking sound enters the scene, which is unidentifiable to whether it is diegetic or non-diegetic, this adds to pressure of the scene to what is befalling him. He sees his hands and acknowledges they are red and take off so he surges them over a sink to cool them, which infers that he is freezing. The mise en scene shows costly lighting and all around outfitted tables, which passes on who ever the loft has a place with, is exceptionally rich. The motivation behind why it has been altered along these line s is so you dont recognize what befell him is to make secret and anticipation to the crowd. Are character strolls over to a wide screen plasma TV and before it there is a plain DVD not for a situation saying FUCK YOU on the front and the shrieking sound escalates. This recommends the DVD will be valuable in clarifying more. He gets it and places it in the DVD player and the shrieking stops to be supplanted by a low-pitch drumming sound. The P.O.V shot is currently of the TV screen which shows a well off looking youthful Hispanic man (called Ricky Verona) who clarifies that he has infused our character (principle character Chev) with some Chinese toxic substance for killing a needed Chinese man called Don Kim. A non-diegetic sound of a moderate paced guitar enters the scene, which slowly increments, to a quick pace rock melody. The exciting music is utilized to pass on how infuriated Chev is. The camera changes to a mid-shot of Chev getting the TV and crushing it, he at that point tramples the screen with his foot to annihilate it. He is breathing significantly more vigorously now to develop progressively pressure. There is additionally hardly any altering done to add to the strain thus the crowd remains locked in. He continues going through the structure with simply the sound of the exciting music. He at that point arrives at the vehicle leave where he gets into his vehicle, here we here the thundering sound of his motor to pass on his outrage. How Public Schools Fail

Random House defines education as â€Å"the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.† This seems like a basic foundation for what the U.S. public education system should be. It certainly would be nice if our public schools taught us general knowledge, helped us develop the powers of reasoning and judgment, and prepared us intellectually for a mature life. Unfortunately, they do none of these things. Currently, the U.S. education  system accomplishes three things: teaching us irrelevant information, preparing us for the bureaucracy of the college system, and destroying our intellectual curiosity. The saying â€Å"All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten† is not far off. As students approach high school, the information they learn goes from necessary, like addition, to slightly applicable, like intermediate geome try (while I may use the Pythagorean theorem sometime in my life, I have yet to encounter that time), to just plain unnecessary. For example, sophomore year we were taught the law of cosines, which allows us to find the length of one side of a triangle when we are given the degree of the opposite angle and the length of the other two sides. This is as useless as it sounds, unless you plan on going into mathematics or engineering, and it’s only one of many useless facts today’s high school students are forced to learn. It’s sad but true that many students are more focused on getting into  college than on their academic development. College graduates make  substantially more money than those with only a high school diploma, and though there is no direct correlation between money and happiness, a college degree also increases your chance of having an enjoyable job, financial security (different from wealth), and the respect of your peers. This is all well a nd good, but our public school system has been so focused on getting students into college that it has completely screwed them over. For one thing, schools now place more emphasis on preparing students for standardized tests like the SAT and ACT.  Only recently have colleges begun to  realize that these tests don’t actually measure intelligence, and it’s common knowledge that these tests only determine students’ ability to take standardized tests. This is bad for both the students who do well and those who don’t. Bad for those who do well, because their hard work preparing for the test is an investment that won’t help them in the future; bad for the students who do poorly, because most receive a low score simply for not being good at taking these tests. The college application process also skews students’ priorities when it comes to extracurricular activities. The concept of selfish giving has  already been discussed in the Teen I nk article â€Å"Acts of (Selfish) Kindness† (www.TeenInk.com/Opinion/article/9877/Acts-of-Selfish-Kindness/). To sum it up, author Daniel R. claims that many students are motivated to do  volunteer work and community service only because of their desire to get into a good college. As I was growing up, I struggled to come to terms both with my gender identity and my mild Asperger syndrome. As a result, I didn’t get involved in activities like church groups and community service until I was 15. By then, it was too late to develop a track record. Of course, that doesn’t mean that I didn’t do any extra curricular activities. I did karate for seven years, I was involved in Webelos, I was the vice  treasurer of my middle school’s Rotary Interact Club, and I am currently the president of my school’s Anime Club and an active member in its Gay-Straight Alliance. I even have a part-time job. Still, I was denied initiation into the National Ho nor Society (NHS) because of â€Å"lack of service.† I wouldn’t tell you that personal  anecdote if there wasn’t a point. Our school’s NHS advisor said that many applicants were rejected because of lack of service and if we did more we might be admitted next year. The NHS considers service important because they believe it shows selflessness. But if I did more service between my  rejection and the next initiation, I would only demonstrate that I wanted to get into the NHS, not that I had  suddenly become a better person. Colleges have also messed up high school education by turning it into a competition. Your chances of getting into a good college often depend on your class rank, regardless of how smart or dumb your class is. Or it may depend on your GPA, regardless of how hard or unfair your teachers were. These two statistics merely provide a glimpse into the complexity of the college applicant. Luckily for some of us, the better colleges e mphasize students’ essays, but even that can be risky. Some people just aren’t that good at writing, even though they may excel at other things, so their essay could decrease their chances of getting into a good school. The final failure of American public education is the destruction of students’ intellectual curiosity. When we are in elementary school, we look forward to school because what we are learning is relevant and practical. This fades as we enter middle school, and by high school the subject matter is both uninteresting and impractical. This combination makes high school students view school as something that they have to trudge through every day until the final bell rings and they can â€Å"have fun again.† Where did it all go wrong? When we started focusing on the competitive aspects of education and how well our students did compared to other countries, we forgot about the people who really matter: the students. How can we fix it? It may b e too late for our generation, but the next one could be improved with a few adjustments. First, we need less emphasis on the â€Å"core classes† like science, math, and social studies. We all need basic backgrounds in these subjects, but by the time students reach high school, they know what they like and should be  allowed to choose which classes to take. This will allow students to learn what they enjoy while still preparing them for life. Secondly, we need more emphasis on elective classes since they help  develop academic curiosity. While some teens view electives as easy ways to fill up their schedule, they  actually help students grow as people while teaching them practical skills for life. And since students choose these classes, they will not lose their academic curiosity. In the end, the biggest change needed in the U.S. public school system is  listening to students. While some  psychologists would have you believe that teenagers shouldn’t be in charge of their education, our input is critical if we are to flourish in high school. Many students are surprisingly knowledgeable about their educational needs, and if our voices are heard, then the education system could get back on its feet and accomplish its purpose: to impart general knowledge, develop the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally prepare us  intellectually for mature life.

It Cannot Be Broken - Free Essay Example

So the Taiyuanese mother continued to choose their daughters-in-law, ones who would raise proper sons, care for the old people, and faithfully sweep the family burial grounds long after the old ladies had gone to their graves (Tan, Joy Luck Club, 51). It was only the mothers of the males that were the ones to go and find the girls who their sons marry and spend the rest of their lives with. These choices were very important since the sons wife would be the one to take care of the family matriarch in her old age, not the sons. Lindo knew she was getting a bad husband, but she had no choice. That is how backward families in the country were (Tan, Joy Luck Club, 51). Lindo did not agree with what was happening; she did not like how the customs went unchanged and women could still not choose their own husbands. We have made a contract. It cannot be broken (Tan, Joy Luck Club, 52), was the attitude. Even if the girl wanted to get out of her marriage, she was not able to because of the contract her family had signed saying their children would be married to each other. The contract was not allowed to be broken. The dowry was included in the marriage contract. All the heavy furniture and bedding has to be left behind, and these were promised to the Huangs as my dowry (Tan, Joy Luck Club, 53). A dowry needed to be provided from the girls family to make her more attractive and worthy of marrying. This was the first time I realized the Huangs had a much better position than my family. They looked down on us which made me understand why Huang Taitai and Tyan-yu had such long noses (Tan, Joy Luck Club, 54). Lindo will be lifted up in social standings because the family she was marrying into had a higher social standing. The Huang family looked down on Lindos family because they were from a lower class. Lindos family could not refuse the marriage offer because they wanted their daughter to have a higher standing and there may not be another chance. Before Lindo was married, she moved into the Huang house and was put to work right away. She did what she was told because she did not want to disgrace her family and she had made a promise to her parents that she did not want to break.

The National Anthem Essay - 2212 Words

Before every National Football League game, the national anthem reverberates throughout the colossal stadiums. Spectators rise from their seats, nod rhythmically, and when the tune finishes, they get raucous. However, Colin Kaepernick, a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, shattered this ritual two months ago. Before their season opener, Kaepernick elected to remain seated for the national anthem. Importantly, it took three successive weeks of him doing this for anyone to notice his silent protest. However, when audiences did notice, every form of media exploded with a myriad of headlines and opinions on the situation. With the nation impatiently waiting for answers, Kaepernick asserted that standing for the anthem implied that he was proud of the country, and since our country oppresses black people, he could no longer be proud of it, and therefore refused to stand. Although that sentiment resonated with many, for every Kaepernick supporter, there seemed to be an equal number t hat were vehemently opposed. Some members of the opposing faction hurled horrific racial slurs and other venomous words at Kaepernick in an effort to degrade him, while others respectfully said that he should focus on football, and if he were so inclined to protest social issues, he could do so on a different platform. M1 - Discuss the nature-nurture debate in relation to the development of an individual The historical debate regarding nature and nurture has been going on for years and is still unresolved. Many theorists believe what we have inherited and our genes, makes us the way we are and how we develop. Other theorists believe it is the way we are brought up and our experiences, that make us the way we are and how we develop. Physical The way we look can be argued to be mainly due to nature. The genes we inherit from our parents make the basis of we look. Continuity And Theory Of Continuity - 897 Words

Continuity and discontinuity are two theories in developmental psychology that attempt to explain how people change throughout their lives. The continuity theory states that a person changes throughout life along a smooth course, while the discontinuity theory states that people change abruptly. Merriam-Webster defines continuity as an uninterrupted connection, succession, or union, or an uninterrupted duration or continuation especially without essential change. Change is defined as to make different to alter, to make radically different, to transform, or to give a different position, course, or direction to. Changes may be described as a variety of someone’s social, and behavioral makeup like their emotions, traditions, beliefs, habits or personality. Rousseau, can be said to be a supporter of the theory of continuity, as he believed that the ignorance of the natural child could lead to harmful adult outcomes through society’s ignorant mishandling of parenting, education and socialization. The assumption was that each stage built on and requiring the successful completion of each previous stage. Sigmund Freud and Jean Piaget, were believers in continuity. Piaget’s theory of cognitive development could be explained through a smooth and steady sequence of stages from the sensorimotor stages of infancy to the formal operational stage achieved in adolescence. White Space Design How to Use White Space Effectively in Web Design

If you’re not a designer, making sure your website looks near-perfect can be a challenge. Using a quality theme can help a lot, but you’ll also want to learn some basic principles if you want the best results. This includes understanding the concept of white space design.White space is exactly what it sounds like, and despite its apparent simplicity, it’s a vital part of any visual design. Too much can leave a page looking empty, for example, while too little can make your content appear cluttered. Achieving the right balance, on the other hand, can do a lot for your site’s appearance and ease of use.In this post, we’ll introduce the topic of white space design. We’ll explore the concept in detail, and show you how to apply it on your own site. Let’s get to work! web design. Even if you’ve never heard the phrase before, you probably have some idea of what it means from the name alone.Take a look at the following page:This home p age displays an image, a title, and some text, all of which is the pages content. The emptiness surrounding the content is referred to as white space.Of course, it’s important not to take this term too literally. White space doesnt actually have to be white – it can be any other background color (or even a background image or design). It’s simply the part of a page that’s left empty. Given this, it’s also sometimes called ‘negative space’.It’s easy to dismiss the blank parts of a page as unimportant. In a way, however, each page’s white space is as important as the content it separates. Let’s talk about why this is.Why white space is a vital design conceptWhen you’re putting together a website, it can be tempting to fit as much content as possible onto each page. There’s a lot you want to share with your readers or customers, after all. For this reason, slipping into a ‘more is better’ me ntality is easy. However, let’s look at what happens when we take this philosophy to its natural extreme:This page is almost completely devoid of white space, and suffers as a result. It appears incredibly cluttered, and it’s difficult to find what you’re looking for. Upon reaching a site like this, most visitors are likely to leave immediately. While this is perhaps an over-the-top example, pages not using enough white space are fairly common. This site also illustrates the point nicely:There’s less going on here, but the elements are still squashed too closely together. This makes the page overwhelming to look at (and of course, the choice of colors and visuals don’t help either). The point here is that using enough white space on your web pages is key to making them both visually appealing and easy to navigate. Having enough white space between elements has also been repeatedly shown to increase reading comprehension, and to have a positive effect on overall User Experience (UX).Of course, you can also take this concept too far in the opposite direction. Too much white space can leave your design looking empty, disjointed, and unprofessional:At the same time, Google’s home page is almost nothing but white space, and is highly effective:This just goes to show that how much white space is ‘right’ for any given web page depends on its goals and the type of content it includes. Finding the perfect balance between negative and occupied space should be at the forefront of your mind when building or redesigning your own website. How to use white space design effectively on your web pagesAs we’ve pointed out, both too much or too little white space can become an issue. In reality, however, the problem is nearly always forgetting to use enough negative space between the other elements on your web pages. This is why white space design largely revolves around balancing out content elements using white space. To get even more specific, there are actually two types of white space.Micro white spaceMicro white space refers to the smaller gaps found between lines of text, images in a grid or gallery, menu links, and other such elements:This space is crucial for ensuring that visitors can read the text on your page, and for separating elements to show that they’re distinct. In most cases, everything on your page should have at least a bit of micro white space around it.This can also be thought of as a border or margin, and is usually most effective when it’s used consistently. This means using the same amount of space between each line of text, for example, and including borders of the same width around all of your images:Macro white spaceAs you might expect, the other aspect to consider is macro white spaces. These are the larger empty areas found between sections of a page, around content blocks, or separating sidebars, headers, and footers from the main content:Macro white space helps visitors understand the structure of your web page. It quickly shows where one section ends and another begins. Plus, it ensures that key elements such as navigation are easily distinguishable from everything else.As a rule of thumb, the more distinct one element is from another, the more white space should be included between them. Sections with less negative space between them will be seen as more closely related. On the other hand, larger gaps indicate a switch to a new type of content or feature:Finally, white space can also be used to help the most important elements on a page stand out. For example, most sites have at least one  Call To Action (CTA). These are important steps you’d like your visitors to take. This could mean clicking on a purchase button, for example, or filling out a subscription form.Surrounding your CTA element with plenty of white space is one of the best ways to draw visitors’ eyes right to it. This is especially effective when the CTA itself is also made distinct through unique colors and design:Achieving the right balance of white space on your pages can take a little work. However, it’s well worth the effort involved. It’s also important to trust your own eye, and have testers take a look at your pages from a fresh perspective. In addition, if you’re having some trouble deciding whether or not you’ve included enough white space on a live site, you can use a heat map tool to analyze visitor behavior. If you’re not seeing much interaction with crucial elements like navigation and CTAs, you might benefit from giving them a little more room to breathe. When it comes to white space design, less is definitely more.ConclusionIt’s said that in music, the silences between notes are just as important as the sounds themselves, because this is what shapes and distinguishes those sounds. The same principle applies to your website – the spaces between content are more vital than you might at first expect. When it comes to using the principles of white space design on your site, balance is key. Too little white space leaves your pages feeling cluttered and confusing, while too much offers no clear structure. To avoid those issues, you can use negative space strategically to show both closely connected elements, and those to be seen as separate and distinct.Do you have any questions about how to use white space design effectively? Moving Out On My Own Essay Examples

Moving Out On My Own Essay ExamplesIf you have been out on your own for some time now, you probably realize that having a proper name for the items that you own or have moved out on your own is vital to not having any problems when moving out. We have all heard it all before, and for many, the information seems too basic and easy to remember. However, there are always occasions when it is necessary to remember something quite complex. To understand the importance of samples when you are moving out on your own, you must understand how the world works, and what a sample is. A sample is a piece of paper or a photograph that is to be used in place of the actual one that is in your possession. It may be a photograph of you at that very moment or a piece of paper that shows what your house looks like after you have lived there for a certain amount of time. However, these can also include examples of how your house should look after you have lived there for a certain amount of time, or even how you would want it to look after you have moved out on your own.The question that many of us often ask is what are the different examples that you can use to take with you in order to see how they look? The good news is that there are actually dozens of ways that you can use these samples to make sure that you have a blueprint for what your house will look like after you have moved out on your own. Using samples allows you to look at pictures of houses before you buy them. You can also look at pictures of houses that are already there and see how they look from the inside.Although they do not exist, there are also samples that are given to you by landlords so that you can visualize what your new house will look like once you have moved out on your own. In many cases, you may be able to get a sample of how a house looks in the real life from an estate agent. There are also two types of samples: those that you can use to create your own, and those that are items that you can actual ly hold or touch in order to examine. Some of the types of samples that you can use to draw inspiration from include dollhouses, homes, and models. These are great examples because they allow you to keep an idea of how the house will look like in your head, and you can also put the picture or model in front of you to help you visualize it. It is important to note that all of these examples are meant for private consumption and not for anyone else to use in their own home.As a result, it is easy to recognize the importance of using samples when you are building your own house. Although the items are different, the general theme of them is also the same. The most important thing to keep in mind when you are designing your house is that you must have a precise plan and one that you follow through with no matter what. When you are using samples as part of your design for your own house, keep in mind that they will only show you what you can see in your head. A single sample is not going t o really give you enough information to make a decision about what the final house would look like. The key is to have a sketch of what you want, and then to have a designer come to your house and show you the sketches.Remember that these samples are not the final product that your house will end up looking like. They are merely the tools that allow you to see what your house would look like as soon as you have moved out on your own.

Does Political Participation Challenge Democracy or Enhance It

Does Political Participation Challenge Democracy or Enhance It Introduction Democracy is probably one of the most complicated concepts to be understood in political science. On the one hand, it seems to be so easy to comprehend the main idea of democracy as the form of government that is controlled by the citizens.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Does Political Participation Challenge Democracy or Enhance It? specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More On the other hand, such form of government has a number of components which have their own characteristics and peculiarities which are hard to define. Due to the Hudson’s idea that the citizen participation may have two faces, it is not always easy to define the impact of such participation on democracy in the USA. A certain control is required to enhance political participation and define its level by means of which it is possible to consider citizens’ opinions and promote the worth of government; in other words, political pa rticipation may enhance considerably American democracy in case this participation is properly organized in the forms of votes or Internet activities; however, current conditions undermine democracy a lot. Summary of the Author’s Ideas Hudson is one of the writers who creates a powerful system by means of which it is possible to evaluate the conditions under which American democracy may be organized. His American Democracy in Peril: Eight Challenges to America’s Future is a unique collection of professional ideas of what may challenge democracy and how this sphere of life may be improved. He introduces four theories of citizen participation and clearly describes an appropriate model for each. The role of people is huge indeed, and society should realize its impact on the development of the country. The author defines two sides of citizen participation: on the one hand, â€Å"fewer citizens seem interested in showing up to vote representatives into office†, and o n the other hand, â€Å"elected representatives are beleaguered with citizen activists monitoring every vote and ready with vociferous demands on every conceivable issue† (Hudson 144). The role of citizen participation in the system may be both decreased and increased under different theories given. For example, Hudson uses protective and pluralistic models of democracy under which citizen participation is passive, and society is too weak to protect its diversity, property, and liberty (Engel 46). However, the other two models, participatory and developmental, aim at involving citizens to the political sphere of life in order to prove social as well as economic equalities. Still, it does not matter for Hudson what model of democracy is used by society because each form is another serious challenge for people and for democracy. People are biased because of the encouraged trivialized elections, spreading radical individualism, and even inequality that is increased in the sphere of business.Advertising Looking for report on political sciences? However, the author underlines that unfortunately â€Å"the character of American political participation undermines our democracy focuses not on who participates but on how participation is organized† (Hudson 160). Even citizen participation remains to be a serious challenge for American democracy under the current conditions. Argument: Does Participation Challenge or Enhance Democracy? According to Hudson, the relations between participation and democracy play an important role and should be organized properly basing on the theories. In the introductory part of the book, the author defines four main theories according to which citizen participation m ay be organized. Each theory has its own impact on politics, this is why it is necessary to pay certain attention to every aspect. Developmental type of democracy â€Å"takes much more positive view of people, especially people in democratic society† (Hudson 10). In other words, the peculiar feature of such model is that democracy here makes sense and has a purpose. Magstadt examines this model as â€Å"a kind of school for civic education and socialization† (103). Pluralistic democracy is one of the most recognizable models as it aims at defining social interests and their competition. There is a certain hierarchical order that is inherent to the economic elite, and such model defines the idea of non-participation as the only positive aspect to satisfy citizens with the offered political process. Protective democracy usually aims at protecting popular governmental control as the only reliable method to protect citizens’ liberty. The point is that citizens are f ree to perform passive roles in all political activities, still, they become active on the economic arena. Though this type of democracy is characterized by properly defined political rights as votes or protests, this model fails to focus on inequality that is spread in society. The essence of participatory model lies into the fact that political and social institutions may be improved by means of direct citizen participation. Democratic citizenship should be provided with freedom and opportunities to create a world the living conditions of which may be considered. Unfortunately, government is not able to control such model of democracy all the time, this is why such attitude to citizens’ rights is usually neglected or poorly organized. To create a properly working society, citizens should have a certain number of skills and a good level of knowledge. Political awareness is an important issue to be considered as citizens should understand the messages they send and receive (K uklinski 278). Unfortunately, not all American citizens are ready to study the required material to participate in different political activities and introduce new ideas of how the current living conditions may be improved.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Does Political Participation Challenge Democracy or Enhance It? specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Of course, people may have their own opinions, still, they are not ready to find practical and legal application to their oral ideas and thoughts. This is why the only rational idea about the level of political participation in the USA should be connected to the protective democracy under which citizens’ ideas and rights are taken into consideration still require certain improvements and elaboration from a pure political point of view. It is seems to be rational to take some aspects of the two theories defined by Hudson in his work, protective and participative. In other words, political participation may enhance democracy in case citizens are provided with a number of opportunities and rights, still, their ideas and suggestions in the forms of votes, personal initiatives, and the Internet activities will be controlled by the government to protect human rights and not to create the situations which are legally hard to explain and introduce. Success of political participation is predetermined by the possibility to organize and maintain the control of human activities without neglecting human rights and initiatives. Conclusion William Hudson contributed considerably to the sphere of political science, and his idea to define citizen participation as one of the challenges to American democracy deserves recognition. In fact, political participation may enhance American democracy in a variety of ways in case a proper model is chosen and implemented to society. People are free to choose what kind of democracy they want to live in, still, they sho uld be also ready to improve personal understanding of the political terms and be promote ideas which have appropriate legal bases. Still, each person should ask one question to him/herself whether he/she is ready to learn more in order to take the step and be able to change the present and improve the future. Engel, Michael. Network managment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5000 words

Network managment - Essay Example r down; today performance management has become a crucial part of the IT teams role which brings about a host of challenges -- especially for global organizations. MAN: Metropolitan Area Network, a data network designed for a town or city. In terms of geographic breadth, MANs are larger than local-area networks (LANs), but smaller than wide-area networks (WANs). MANs are usually characterized by very high-speed connections using fiber optical cable or other digital media. A MAN is optimized for a larger geographical area than is a LAN, ranging from several blocks of buildings to entire cities. MANs can also depend on communications channels of moderate-to-high data rates. A MAN might be owned and operated by a single organization, but it usually will be used by many individuals and organizations. MANs might also be owned and operated as public utilities. They will often provide means for internetworking of local networks. Metropolitan area networks can span up to 50km, devices used are modem and wire/cable Some technologies used for this purpose are ATM, FDDI, and SMDS. These older technologies are in the process of being displaced by Ethernet-based MANs (e.g. Metro Ethernet) in most areas. MAN links between LANs have been built without cables using either microwave, radio, or infra-red laser links. DQDB, Distributed Queue Dual Bus, is the Metropolitan Area Network standard for data communication. It is specified in the IEEE 802.6 standard. Using DQDB, networks can be up to 30 miles long and operate at speeds of 34 to 155 Mbit/s. MAN adopted technologies from both LAN and WAN to serve its purpose. Some legacy technologies used for MAN are ATM, FDDI, DQDB and SMDS. These older technologies are in the process of being displaced by Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet. At the physical level, MAN links between LANs have been built on fibre optical cables or using wireless technologies such as microwave or radio. The Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) composes a

American Society and Culture in Film Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

American Society and Culture in Film - Essay Example It would not be a mistake to suggest that the course heavily relies on several concepts that are used to design a framework for a detailed analysis of the cinema. Thus, the concept of historical as well as industrial contexts is engaged in order to show the diachronic value of films. Ideology is a notion which is used to translate the messages that are being sent. A genre is an important term which defines the place of a movie in a general perspective. Cinematic codes shed light on the way actual scenes, the building units of movies, are created. Visual politics explain the content of messages that are conveyed by the movies. The first concept that will be analyzed in great detail is historical context of a movie. It is quite obvious that cinema should be regarded as one of the forms of art, in spite of the fact that it is rather young if compared to others. Nevertheless, the popularity of it is big and resulted in the fact that movies became â€Å"an alternative to such established pastimes as the music hall, vaudeville, professional sports, and the saloon† (Jarvie, 1997, 249). As one can easily see, out of the pastimes which were named in the quote above, only professional sports survived. This means that movies should not be regarded as some kind of senseless entertainment, but rather an important act of aesthetic interaction between various parts of society – the function which the above-mentioned pastimes used to fulfill. One would make no mistake suggesting that watching a movie may be regarded as a modern equivalent of listening to folklore stories since both engage a person in an aes thetic dialogue and teach a certain lesion. The only difference is the extent to which image is used. In addition to that, movies often were used as a means to convey important messages, for example, in the movie The Great Dictator the directors designed aesthetics in a way to reflect the contemporary situation in Nazi Germany. What is more important is that at the present moment there is a clear distinction between watching a movie and going to a cinema.

Literature Review Assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Literature Review Assignment - Essay Example Moreover, towards the end of the minimum body temperature stage, a person will enter the ‘wake maintenance zone’ (Lack, Gradisar, Van Someren, Wright, and Lushington 309). In addition, the body’s temperature does not just affect the rhythms that people experience when engaged in the dream phase or before waking up. A person’s body temperature can also affect his or her frequency of experiencing insomnia. The onset of insomnia can be attributed to delayed rhythms of body temperature in incidences where an individual attempts to sleep in the midst of a delayed wake maintenance period. This may typically be experienced in the evening. Insomnia can also happen in the morning. Experiences of awakening insomnia in the morning may be connected to the incidence of advanced rhythm in temperature. According to Lack, Gradisar, Van Someren, Wright, and Lushington, the combination of maintenance insomnia and sleep onset is linked with the constant elevation of the temperature of the human body stimulating the continual hyper-arousal state that is characteristic of insomnia (307). Book Report on Clara Barton :: Papers

Book Report on Clara Barton Clara Barton attacked many social problems of the 1800’s. From creating a free school, to being on the front lines helping soldiers in the Civil War, to creating the American Red Cross, Clara Barton was a humanitarian. She fought for what she believed in and because of her never-ending fight for people, the world is a different place. Clara Barton was born during 1821 in Massachusetts. As a young child, Barton learned a great deal of schooling from her older siblings; she learned a wide variety of different subjects. She seized every educational opportunity that she was given and she worked hard to receive a well rounded-education. Clara Barton would later use her education to create her own school and eventually help start an organization that is still used today. As a young child, Clara was extremely shy; nevertheless, after many years she was able to overcome this. Even as a young child Clara thrived helping others. She tended to her sick brother who was severely injured by a roofing accident on a regular basis. The skills she learned from helping her brother proved to be used again when she was on the front-line of the Civil War helping wounded soldiers. At the age of 18, Miss Barton became a schoolteacher. She taught at numerous different schools around Massachusetts. Clara noticed in one particular town that many of the students did not attend school that greatly distressed her. She wanted all children to have the same educational opportunity that she had when she was growing up. Eventually, Barton started her own school. It was free. However, she did not stay there for a long period of time. Clara only taught for a matter of ten years, teaching had exhausted Barton and she longed for a change in her life. She left the teaching field to move onto another field. Barton moved to Washington DC and she became a clerk in the US Patent Office. When the Civil War broke out, Barton chose to resign from her position in the US Patent Office. She started working on the battlefield as a volunteer. At first her basic job was to distribute bandages and war supplies to the wounded soldiers. Barton took her job to another extreme.

Happiness: The Key To Life Essay

Hap-pi-ness: the quality or state of being happy. One crucial standard for living is being able to be happy. Happiness can be found in an numerous amount of ways. It can be found by buying inanimate items that help us better our life or it can be found with communicating with someone. To truly reach full happiness you need to recognize that everything in your life if good and accept that you can be happy with individuals that help shape your life. Many people feel as if they are unable to live without many of their precious belongings but, some would be happy to give them up or throw them away. It is extremely difficult to look face to face to someone and find an acceptable answer to the question â€Å" Can happiness be bought? †. Achieving happiness can be a very simple thing ; for instance the life of a cat. Cats do not have many possessions / items yet they seem very happy and enjoy their lives. Cats have a reliable friend and are constantly loved by someone or another cat. They have everything to be happy so why shouldn’t they be? This can relate to humans because not many people have the same items or electronics as others yet they are happy with the simplest of things. As an example; homeless people receiving a meal on thanksgiving while others just think its another holiday, another family meal. People feel or believe that they can buy happiness but, think about how long that one Martins 2 item keeps/ makes you happy. You spent all your money on a new outfit but, you realize you have no one to see it, do you still feel happy? Or would you feel better at a friends house and hanging out. Think about this: You bought a movie and watch it three times. First time your â€Å" ROLF† rolling on the floor dieing of laughter, second time it funny and by the third time you done, sick of it. Or even when you buy a need game, you play a couple of time than something new, better , more expansive comes along. You never get tried of the simplest things in life, that is true happiness. For instance, my grandma comes over my house and makes me her special hot chocolate because she thinks I’m too skinny. It warms your stomach and makes you feel like special and thankful for everything. You can have all the things in the world but, you will never be happy if you do not have anybody to share it with. If you have no one you feel you can trust of call your true friend buying items will not help fill that void in your life.â€Å"True friends can not be bought at any store and love is not sold in a bottle† but, it can happen and bring you so much happiness. These are things you can get with your heart, even people that are extremely poor or in debt find happiness in the people they love and friends that truly care for them. It is crazy what effect money has. If you can not get happiness with it than isn’t even worth all the money in the entire universe. To be happy, many people need to come to the realization that everything that has occurred in the present or past happened for a logical reason and that’s it has happened in order to make you a better human being. It does not only make you a better person but make you see how well off you have it or can be able to have it. Even though certain events in life can be Martins 3 difficult at a certain moment, people need to realize that you can learn from your experiences and learn to take what is good out of it. In the end, certain situations will help many strive for happiness. Happiness is not free, you need to work and earn it to keep it. To exceed fully happiness people need to go through rough times and happy times as well. Many need to learn how to get the best out of their surroundings. Many things in life go wrong or not how you expected it would turn out but, that does not mean you need to live in fear. You need to live your life to the fullest and be happy, have fun even if things do not always go as planned. People say the best kind of happiness you can feel is when you are in love with someone and you know that they love you back. Whether it is a relationship or just your friends, you care about them so much that you wish them the best in life and their own journeys. This is the purest form of happiness. When two individuals will do anything to make sure the other person is happy and you are as well, it is an unspoken agreement. Happiness may come and go like seasons but, in the end, every moment you have that is filled with happiness will be well worth the unhappy and happy times that you have once endured. Think of those times as milestones in your life. Those little times of being happy or sad are bringing you to the bigger picture in your life. Remember that happiness is a gift that can be and should be shared with everyone. Sure buying things can make you feel amazing for a couple of days or even hours but, in the end you will find greater / true happiness in the little, simplest everyday things that life offers.

In Order To or So That in Spanish

Phrases such as in order to, so that, and with the aim of are known as subordinators of purpose — and there are several ways to get across those ideas in Spanish.   Using Para and Para Que for In Order To The most common Spanish subordinator of purpose is the conjunction para or the phrase para que, as in the following examples: Come para vivir, no vive para comer. (Eat in order to live, do not live in order to eat.)Para perder peso, tiene que reducir la cantidad de calorà as en su dieta. (In order to lose weight, you have to reduce the number of calories in your diet.)Haga click en la foto para conocer los à ºltimos trabajos de este artista. (Click on the picture in order to learn more about the final works of this artist.)Voy a hacer una lista para que no olvides mis cosas. (Im going to make a list so (or so that) you dont forget my things.)Para que comprenda lo que quiero decir, primero permà tame advertirle. (In order to understand what I want to say, first let me tell you.)Tambià ©n se le debe ofrecer agua para que beba. (You can also offer him water so (or so that) he can  to drink.)Hay muchos trucos para que cocinar sea mà ¡s fà ¡cil. (There are many tricks so that  cooking is easier.) Note that in most cases you the same Spanish translation works for either in order to or so (that). As in the above examples, para que is followed by a verb in the subjunctive mood, while para standing alone is followed by an infinitive. Also, you may notice that when the para infinitive construction is used, the person performing both actions is the same, while when para que subjunctive is used, the persons are different. See the difference in these simple examples: Trabajo para comer. (I work so that I eat.)Trabajo para que comas. (I work so that you eat.) This rule isnt always strictly followed. It is possible under some circumstances to use para by itself when there is a shift of doer, or (more often) to use para que when theres not. But the method given here is the most common and also the easiest for foreigners to use if they wish to keep from making grammatical blunders. Other Spanish Subordinators of Purpose Here are some examples of other Spanish subordinators of purpose (in boldface): Salieron a cazar por el dà a. (They left in order to hunt for the day.)Llegan a comer mariscos. (They came in order to eat seafood.)Llame al oficina a defin hablar confidencialmente con un asesor. (Call the office in order to speak confidentially with an advisor.)A fin de que su aplicacià ³n sea à ºtil, las correlaciones encontradas deben ser tan poco obvias que parezcan ilà ³gicas. (In order for your application to be useful, the correlations found ought to be so inobvious that they seem illogical.)Fueron a las ruinas con el fin de aprender mà ¡s. (They went to the ruins with the goal of  learning more.)Con el fin de que el turismo pueda ser una actividad sostenible, es fundamental que se adopten cà ³digos de conducta. (In order for tourism to be a sustainable activity, it is vital that codes of conduct be adopted.)Con objeto de controlar la produccià ³n agraria, se prevà ©n sistemas de cuotas. (In order to control farm production, quota systems are being planned.)Con ob jeto de que los grupos sean lo mà ¡s homogà ©neos posibles, rogamos que no participen los desempleados. (So that the groups are as homogenous as possible, we ask that unemployed persons not participate.) As you might have guessed, the differences between a fin de and a fin de que, and between con objeto de and con objeto de que, are similar to the differences between para and para que. Phrases such as con el fin de and con objeto de are more common in Spanish and less stuffy-sounding than English equivalents such as with the purpose of.
